When I got a call from Mr. Lancer, I wasn't sure what to expect. He was very brief, "Mrs. Fenton? This is Mr. Lancer, I would like to meet you and your husband outside the Nasty Burger at 5 to talk about your son."

So, Jack and I met him there, wondering what Danny had done this time. We expected the usual, skipping class, forgetting detention, pulling the fire alarm. We didn't expect what Mr. Lancer told us, our son had cheated on the CAT.

My son had cheated.

I was just about to confront him when Sam and Tucker came running up. I wasn't sure what those two were rambling about, something about the Nasty Burger exploding. We tried to calm them down, but they kept insisting that we had to leave. I believe that Mr. Lancer summed up all of our thoughts when he shouted, "South Beach Diet, people! What's going on here?"
Jazz provided the answer.

Apparently, Danny wasn't Danny, which I immediately brushed off as ridiculous. Of course it was Danny, who else could it be?

I should have listened to her.

Jazz brought out the Fenton Ghost Peeler and fired it at her "brother." What it revealed was a monster.

Ghost hunting instinct kicking in, I immediately aimed my ectogun at the creature, demanding to know where my son was.

I wish I hadn't asked.

Apparently, it was Danny. But it didn't make any sense. How could my son be this ghost? My son was alive, he was human, not some half-ghost abomination like this creature claimed.

Stunned, I didn't have time to react when this thing picked itself up and floated over us. I was prepared to disregard what it had said, but its next words froze me in my tracks, "Hello? Danny Fenton, Danny Phantom? Ever notice the similarity? Jazz did."

I barely heard Jack's shout of, "Liar!" as I processed what this ghost had said. It all made sense, in some horribly twisted way. Danny always disappeared when Inv-Phantom appeared. Phantom appeared right after Danny's accident. It explained everything; the low grades, the constant exhaustion, constantly missing curfew, skipping class.

My body froze as I came to another realization: we hunted him. We hunted our own son. My baby boy.

I felt like I was going to be sick.

Now this thing was apparently what my little Danny was going to become, a heartless monster. My heart was in denial. There was no way that Danny could become this. He was a sweet little boy, always caring for others. He couldn't become a cruel ghost.

But he did. And now, this creature was going to kill us all. My baby was going to kill us all.

I wanted to scream. But he bound and gagged us, attaching us to the overheated boiler. I could feel the heat through my jumpsuit, my back felt like it was on fire. I could only watch helplessly as Jazz tried to defeat the ghost, tried to defeat her brother. Her efforts were in vain, and she soon joined us on the boiler.

I squirmed, trying to loosen my bonds, but the ectoplasm remained secure; we were not going anywhere.

The situation was bleak, we were going to die, and this ghost of my son was going to kill us all. I was about to give up all hope when I saw it.

A streak of black and white. A furious cry.

The older ghost was tossed back by the impact. The new ghost floated over to us. I immediately recognized him: white hair, green eyes, black and white HAZMAT suit. It was Phantom, no Danny. "I won't become him," he said, "I promise."

I could only stare at my son, who had kept half of his life secret from us for a year. He had more responsibility than any other teenager I know, and I was proud of him. Looking into those eyes, I could only believe him, knowing that he would do everything in his power to stop his older self.

That was the boy I knew.

Danny was thrown back by an ectoblast from his older self. All of us watched the battle, unable to help Danny in any way.

The blistering heat from the boiler was increasing; I could feel the skin on my back begin to burn. I struggled with feelings of desperation, wanting to go out and help my little boy. With every blow he took, every building he crashed into, I felt my heart break. Maternal instinct demanded that I go out and punish the creature that was hurting my son. But I could only watch.

Time was running out. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the thermometer crack as the boiler overheated. A high pitched whistle dominated my hearing, indicating the impending explosion.

I didn't want to die. I wanted to see my son one last time, to tell him how proud I am. I want to see my children graduate, I want to meet my grandchildren.

I don't want to leave Danny alone.

I could only watch as Danny ran desperately towards the boiler, exhausted from his fight. I could only hope that he knew how proud I was.

White overtook my vision.
Yep, it's another oneshot. This is just a short piece from Maddie's point of view. It's basically her thoughts during the fight scene in The Ultimate Enemy.
